Galatians: For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Trust in the Lord, for He is good. I have to trust that the good Lord has my back. I don't believe I've been led this far only to be left high and dry. There is no doubt that Christ came to set us free and not to be afraid of anything, especially not to be afraid of having an intimate relationship with God. Isn't that what God wants from us, to share our fears, our joys, our doubts?
Would I be living the life God meant for me to live if I lived in fear? Fear of the future? Would I live a longer, more fulfilled life if I worried more about my future?
I recall a moment before I moved to Montana but was still in Chicago. I knew I was called to do so, but things didn't fit into place as I tried to help God along with the planning. Right around that time, I saw a bumper sticker that read, "I plan, God laughs." I took the cue and let things unfold as they did.
Since moving to Montana, actually, since being on the Camino, I have been more intentionally in tune with God's will for my life. Unfortunately, I think that is a foreign concept to many people. Perhaps they don't hear God's voice or don't trust it as I do.
For me, I've spent too much of my time dishonoring that voice, living in slavery to ought-to, shoulds, and wait-till-your-father-gets-home. I've tried that way. Now is the time to live a life of freedom, not tomorrow, not the past, but right now in the present. We've all heard that there's no time like the present. Yesterday, I heard a beautiful twist to it, "There's no present like time."
I am not here to live your life, I am only called to live my life. I am walking my own camino; the only way I know how is by trusting God to keep me living in His freedom.
Today, may we honor Christ by being truly grateful for the freedom He brought to us, for us.
