1 John: All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us.
It's March Madness, and as I type, Gonzaga leads UCLA by two points with twenty-five seconds left in the game. Usually, my youngest son and I will have a little bracket competition, and this year, we opened it up to the family.
Typically, my son ribs me because of how I choose the winner of the games. He says I pick the winner based on the color of their uniforms, but that only happens in football, not basketball. I start with if I know someone who attended that particular college, or perhaps their sibling attended it, or if the college is located in a state where I know someone. If it's a Catholic school, then that's a given.
So with Gonzaga (Catholic) leading UCLA (I'll see who wins after I finish typing this), that leads to our verse today, with special attention to the "...by the Spirit that he has given us."
There is nothing the Spirit cannot do, and though I only attended a Catholic high school and not college, there's something about the spirit in a Catholic school that makes me believe that the Spirit is leading the way. Watching these basketball games, the players seem filled with Spirit and therefore can do anything.
I've got Xavier (Catholic) winning the entire tournament.
May we be filled with the Spirit and do what seems impossible.
