Ephesians: Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

Good advice for newlyweds and something my mother told me before I got married, "Never go to bed angry." She was right. I tried it once, and it didn't go well. I dreamt that my wasband was cheating on me, which made me even angrier the next morning.

I know several people who are angry at God because God didn't do whatever their way, or took someone out of their lives in one way or another. Typically, their question is, "Why did this happen to me," or "If there really is a God, how could he/she let this happen?"

The funny thing about this human experience, we all get the chance to be human. We all get free will, like it or not. God is so gracious that we get to choose what thoughts go through our heads or how we react to wrongful situations. Anger or happiness is our choice as well.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I have an Our Father meditation that connects the Sacraments to the chakras and intentions that have come to me. The Our Father prayer is the vehicle through which the prayer moves through the body.

The Sacrament of Holy Orders falls on the throat chakra, and the part of the Our Father is, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done." The intentions that go along with that chakra are: God's will; surrendering to God's will; giving voice to God's will; the freedom that comes from doing God's will; and God's divine, infinite, and unconditional presence in our lives.

The throat is located in the neck and the head has the ability to turn one way or the other thanks to the neck. In the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the mother says to her daughter, "The man may be the head of the household, but the woman is the neck, and she can turn the head whichever way she pleases."

Brilliant on so many levels.

If we choose to do God's will in everything we do, we aren't guaranteed that we won't get angry, that there won't be disappointments, but we will live more aligned with God, more aligned with the straight and narrow. Ultimately, it is our choice.

My intention for today is to live closer to God's will because God is the neck.
